Having spent my childhood in Vietnam, I have vivid memories of bustling mornings filled with an array of breakfast options. Among these choices, one food item that consistently won my heart was Bánh Mì. After visiting Vietnam in 2018, I discovered my true passion for food and became determined to bring the most authentic Vietnamese bánh mì to Tacoma, Washington, where my family had immigrated over 2 decades ago.
Bánh Mì, pronounced Bahn Mee, is a Vietnamese food staple that is a short baguette with a thin, crisp crust and soft airy texture. It is accompanied with pate, mayo, pickled vegetables and meat. Inspired by my love for Vietnamese cuisine and culture, I created a menu not only celebrates the flavors and traditions of my homeland, but also paints a vivid picture of Vietnam for those who have not visited the lovely country. During my trip, I visited magnificent cities and landmarks such as the Mekong Delta, the Notre Dame, Sapa, Hoi An, and HaLong Bay, which served as a great source of inspiration. The experiences inspired me to name our bánh mì after these captivating places, offering customers a literal and culinary journey through Vietnam.
Understanding the fast-paced lifestyles of my customers, I have skillfully perfected the art of delivering gourmet, restaurant-quality meals in a convenient grab-and-go format. And it wasn't just Bánh Mì that won hearts – Toast Mi also became known for its delectable Rice Bowls and refreshing Bubble Tea, ensuring there's something for every palate.
The first Toast Mi location opened its doors in the Proctor District in July 2020. Fueled by immense demand and overwhelming community support, a second location proudly sprang up in Green Lake just two short years later. With a strong sense of pride as a vibrant contributor to the local culinary scene, Toast Mi is excited to share our profound passion for Vietnamese cuisine with an even wider audience.
